What We Know
The car belonged to an elderly gentleman in Michigan who was in the process of having the car restored. Sadly, he passed away before being able to finish the car. His wife then approached West Michigan Imports, as she knew one of the guys that worked there, and asked if they would finish the restoration and sell the car for her. They got the car to what they called “98% complete” then sold it to another Michigan gentleman, who we later purchased the car from. Throughout his ownership, he adored the car and had many items tended to. He wanted the car to be “correct”, but slightly modernized for improved driveability. The car received a completely rebuilt B-series motor, the mechanical work all done by C-Tech Performance of Wyoming, Michigan. Please see the photo of the build receipt, as the invoice provides detail of what exactly went into the motor. Following C-Tech's work, the owner used the car as a summer driver for a few years before bringing it to University Motors, a well-known British specialist, to have the car really dialed in. John Twist, noted MGA guru, tuned the car. In its current state, the car is a truly excellent example. It has only seen about 600 miles since the motor was installed! It's damn near perfect inside and out, and feels fantastic on the road. It's much more sophisticated-feeling than just about every other classic British roadster we've owned, but it sure hasn't lost the charm that make these cars so appealing
We have a number of receipts in-hand, including but not limited to the following items
January 2008, C-Tech Performance: 1800cc B-series long block motor build, block est to be from 1970. Please see photo of invoice. Built in 2008. The car has only seen about 600 miles since the build
April 2013, University Motors: Rebuilt distributor and replaced dynamo. Rebuild carbs. Change gearbox oil. Brake service and bleed. Finish up change polarity. Weld sill plates and install splash guards. Fit new wheels (Minator 8 spoke) to car, which required putting hubs on lathe to get the Minilites to fit properly. Install strip set, seals, splash plates, door cables, aluminum frame curtain set
July 2015, Eclectic Motorworks: Rebuild front shocks. Replace front coil springs. Center steering wheel, lower a-arms and remove springs. Replace springs with new units from Victoria British (ride height was too high with previous springs). Replace floats on SU H4 carbs, replaced with new Nitrophyl floats from Joe Curto. Replace fuel filter
The Exterior
Iris Blue is just the right color for these cars. Paint looks great; there is no overspray or signs of age, and presents extremely well. There are absolutely no scrapes, scuffs, dings, or chips anywhere on the car. Even on the lowest corners of the car, the paint is free of any rock chipping. Chrome pieces are all intact and in excellent shape. There is no oxidation whatsoever on any of the chrome. It shines bright and has a mirror-like finish. Lights are clear and crack-free, as is the windscreen. All rubber trim is new. Wheels are new Minator 8-spokes and wear new 165 rubber at all four corners. The car has a new dark blue convertible top, a new dark blue tonneau cover, and new side curtains with a leather carrying bag
The Interior
Grey interior is in fantastic shape and contrasts beautifully with the Iris Blue paint and dark blue tonneau cover. Carpet, upholstery, door panels, dash, gauges, top, top frame, and side curtains were all new as of early 2000s and remain in like-new condition. All interior items – horn, fan, lights, signals, wipers – are in working order
