Evolve Motors & Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this lovely 1938 MG TA Midget
We were recently contacted by a gentleman who told us he had finally reached a point that he was ready to sell his beloved, a '38 MG TA Midget that he had painstakingly restored from the ground up. The restoration was a four year undertaking, beginning in 2008 and finished in 2011. The restoration was documented in detail, not only with nearly 100 pages of receipts, but also with a date-stamped photo journal showing every step of the process. We have been having an absolute blast with the car, and are now offering it for sale. Just in time for summer
Exterior
The car is exactly as you would expect from a garage-queen that's just 6 years off a full restoration; the car shows phenomenally well. Red paint is free of any significant blemishes and all chrome shows beautifully. There are a couple very minor chips from regular road use (around filler cap, one on lower driver door), but paint was clearly done to a high standard. There is absolutely no body damage, no dents or dings whatsoever. While these cars originally had a polished front grille, this car's grille is black, which we prefer. It looks great against the car's red/black color scheme. The car does have a black convertible top, which is free of any tears or damage, but we do not have a set of side curtains to make the car totally water-tight. No matter though, this isn't really a car we foresee anybody taking on any rainy-day drives. Wire wheels are in nice shape, they show their age a bit but are free of any damage
Interior
Black leather seats are in close-to-new condition, and wooden dash is in excellent shape. We love the Jaeger gauges on these early British cars, they have a very watch-like face which looks great alongside the knobby wooden wheel. Chrome rings around the gauges show a bit of patina but are in very nice shape overall. Door cards and carpeting is all in excellent shape, having been replaced during the restoration. All gauges are functional, as are wipers, lights, and signals. Suicide-style doors open and close without a fuss
Underbody / Under the Hood
This car benefits from a complete rebuild of its 1.3L inline-4 ($7300 receipt in-hand) just a few years ago. It was thoroughly gone through, and as a result, is a real pleasure to drive. It starts right up without hesitation, idles cool and steady, and winds through the gears nicely. Shifts are smooth and easy and the car tracks nice and straight down the road. Period-correct drum brakes work well, and sure keep things interesting when zipping through traffic. Underneath, the car is in immaculate condition. Please take a good look through the photos, as the car is documented in detail
With its open top, low driving position, and only 94 inch wheelbase, this car is an absolute blast to drive. Fresh off a documented complete restoration and professional engine rebuild, this is surely one of the nicer MG TA Midgets out there. Buy with confidence
