Finished in its original color this Viking Blue 1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible was setup to mimic the iconic 442 Cutlass of its time. The car was restored about 12 years ago when it also received its complete makeover. What started as a 1972 Cutlass Supreme is now a very nice 442 clone. Many changes were made to the interior and exterior to convert the car over. The 350 Rocket was kept just the same along with the transmission and drive line. While we do not believe this to be the VIN correct block (numbers matching) it is an era correct 350 Rocket. During the restoration the engine was rebuilt and the transmission was gone through
On this '72 you will find 442 emblems/badging front and rear and on both fenders. The air cleaner also bears the 442 logo despite covering the 350 Rocket. Now, there was an option for a 350 with the 442 package however this one was not optioned as such. The grille was replaced with the correct 442 style. The trumpet tips of the dual exhaust help further replicate the 442 style as they exit the bumper through the correct cutout style rear chrome
Inward the interior was altered to replicate the 442 with the correct floor shifter and bucket style front seats. The interior is complete and in nice shape. We note some normal wear and tear on door trim panels, carpets, convertible top etc.. Nothing out of the ordinary and overall the interior shows in excellent condition. The recent owner outfitted the car with high end JL Audio sound system. It features the head unit, rear mounted amp, sub, and trim speakers. It sounds unbelievable making this the perfect summer beach cruiser. All guages and dash features appear to be in good working order. The top drops and raises with the press of the switch and appears to be in good working order. The top material is nice and clean and looks great
The body and lines on this car look great. We recently wet sanded and buffed the entire car in our detail shop and it came out gorgeous. It has some minor dings here and there, nothing you wouldnt expect from a 40+ year old car. The Viking blue is really nice and deep and looks great. The panels all appear solid and free of rust and damage. The rockers, sills, and jambs all look really dry and clean as you can see in the pictures. The floor pans and underside frame rails are dry and solid and show nice and solid. The lower 1/4 panels and fenders are solid and free from rust. The doors close nicely, as does the hood and decklid. The trunk area is nice and dry and shows very well. We dont detect any major accident repair anywhere on the car
Mechanically the car is nice and well maintained. The bullet proof 350 fires right up, smoke free, and comes to a nice quiet smooth idle right away. It revs up smooth and drops right back down to idle nicely. The car does have AC however it has not been used in a few years so we can only assume that it will need to be serviced at the least. The trans shifts nice and smooth and it gets through the gears nice and quick without hesitation or slipping. This car was used as a summer driver so the oil changes and normal maintenance were always kept up to date
