Evolve Motors & Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1966 Volvo 122S
We are selling this beautiful '66 122S on behalf of a gentleman who has owned it since late 2015. The car was sold new in Portland Oregon in 1965, where it was kept by the original owner for just shy of 50 years. The current owner purchased the car under the impression that it had just been restored to a very high standard, but when he received the car he felt that his idea of “high standard” was different than that of the seller. All paint work was excellent and the interior looked great, but under the carpets there were some signs of rust in the corners of the floors and overall the car felt like it could use some sorting. In order to get the car to the level he had hoped for, the owner brought the car to Swedish Car Parts Inc, of Bensenville, IL shortly after purchasing. There he had the car gone through in it's entirety. We have attached a photo of the receipt, but in short, Swedish Car Parts repaired rust in the floors and trunk, converted brakes to a two circuit system, rebuilt the steering assembly, restored sub frame, modified the electrical system and installed a Volvo Nippon Denso alternator, replaced fuel lines, fixed the radio and heat, and replaced a number of bushings and seals throughout. As it sits, this is surely one of, if not the very best, examples of the 122S we've ever laid eyes on
Exterior
A fresh coat of factory-correct Dark Blue (90) was applied around three years ago while in Oregon under the previous owner. The car was stripped down to bare metal, and all glass and trim was removed prior to prep. All five wheels, including the spare, were media blasted and powder coated. A photo log documents the paint and body work, as well as the later metal and mechanical work completed after the car had been relocated from Oregon to Illinois
The car looks absolutely phenomenal. Paint is show-quality, the finish is truly excellent. All chrome pieces have been removed and re-chromed, including bumpers, mirrors, door handles, and hubcaps. All this bright chrome contrasts brilliantly against the dark blue exterior. The car also retains its original grille, glass (except windshield), headlights, taillights, and all window and drip-rail trim has been straightened and polished. All glass panes have received new, professionally-fitted seals. The body is completely straight, there are no dings, dents, scratches, or nicks to be found on the car. Lights are all clear and crack-free. Glass is perfectly clear throughout, though there is one very small chip in the driver's side window
Interior
While the car was originally fitted with blue leatherette interior, the interior received a thorough overhauling during the restoration. Seats wear new black leatherette upholstery, and door panel trim, floor mats, kick panels, weatherstripping, and dash pad are all new. The large majority of interior pieces were sourced from VP Autoparts, a well-known vintage Volvo parts specialist located in Sweden. The original radio has been refurbished and sounds great through “new” vintage speakers. Heat, fan, wipers, wiper sprayer, gauges, and all lights inside and out work without fault. The car will also come with a set of rubber Volvo floormats. Body-colored dash looks great, with no scratches or chips. Seats are in perfect shape, with no cracks, scratches, or tears whatsoever
Mechanical/Underbody
Swedish Car Parts Inc. of Bensenville, IL gave the car a thorough inspection and overhauling in April of 2016. Please see photo of receipt for outline of work completed. The car
