VIN: RRC00200
Engine: 350ci V8, Dated 1979, #14016379
Transmission: TH350 Automatic

We purchased this Duesenberg Murphy Roadster Replica from a gentleman in Michigan who had owned the car for the last fifteen years, along with a number of other tribute cars. This car is reportedly based on a full-size 1970 Chevy frame, and the numbers on the drivetrain decode to a Chevy 350 V8 from 1979 and a GM automatic transmission. While maybe not quite as special as the big straight-8s the original Duesenberg Roadsters were equipped with, this car's GM-derived mechanicals make it relatively easy to own and operate, and is far less costly than the real thing. With the rumble seat, flashy looks, and easy-to-use nature, this would make an excellent parade car or special-occasion rental.

The Exterior:
Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. Beige paint presents well but isn't entirely without fault. The hood is ever so slightly a different shade of beige than the rest of the car, and there are a handful of chips along the crease where the hood latches. Polished surfaces are very nice throughout, though there is some oxidation towards the centers of the wire hubcaps. Light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Glass is good with the exception of the small side window on the passenger's side, which is cracked in the upper corner. Whitewall tires are in very nice shape, with no dryness, yellowing or significant wear, and the DOT number indicates they were manufactured in 2004. Vinyl convertible top and side curtains are in nice shape, with no punctures or damage, but do show their age a bit, as anything bright white will before too long. Top is very lightweight and is easily removed/installed – it is fixed into place by two screws and a number of buttons. Weatherstripping is nice throughout, not dry or cracked.

The Interior:
Brown vinyl is in very nice shape, with no significant signs of age or wear. Front and rumble seats are free of any punctures or scuffs. Brown carpet is a bit tired...not fraying or crumbling, but some areas have faded and appear slightly discolored. Again, please defer to the video for a close look at it in daylight. Wooden gauge cluster is free of any hairline cracks or other damage. Sun visors are in nice shape and hold their position. Gauges are all functional, including the odometer. Odometer reading of just over 10k miles is believed to be accurate mileage on the car since assembly, though we do not know the complete history of the 1979 Chevy V8 under the hood. The car is titled as a 1981 model year, so assembly in the early 80s would make sense. Signals and fog lights are functional, headlights are not. This car does have seatbelts – two lap belts up front, two in back.

Under the Hood / Under the Car:
Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Car looks quite good underneath. It has clearly been garage-kept, as the rubber/bushings all look relatively fresh, not dry and cracked. No evidence of damage or repairs.
The car runs, drives, and stops, but could use some going-over before being fully exercised. The car starts right up, idles cool and steady, pulls through the gears, shifts smoothly, tracks straight, brakes straight and effectively. Since purchasing the car we've rebuilt the carb and added a handful of miles, but this car didn't see much use over the last five or so years of prior ownership, so it should be looked-over and given a tune-up prior to being routinely used and enjoyed.
