We purchased this stunning '51 Mercury Coupe nearly fifteen years ago now from a gentleman in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago who had owned the car since 1990. He had been gradually restoring the car until his health declined, and so we stepped in while the car was still in pieces and took it to the next level. The car was treated to a high-level two-stage paint job during our ownership, and the chrome was sent out and restored at that time as well. Three years ago we went through the fuel system (new tank and sending unit, rebuilt the carb and fuel pump), and the car is a strong runner as it currently sits. There are still a couple to-dos for this car to be “done, done”, like putting a correct oyster white top on it and sourcing a couple mid-line trim pieces, but this is a very nice, dry, honest, and correct example that can be enjoyed as-is while gradually brought to the finish line.

Exterior:
Please take a look through the photos and video, as the car is documented in detail. This car was painted the correct Brewster Green Metallic at Albany Auto Chicago in 2008 and the paint survives in absolutely excellent condition. No spots of bubbling, peeling, paint run, dust nibs….truly show-quality finish. Chrome was restored and has a mirror-like finish throughout, with just one spot of any pitting – very minor on the door handles. Body is nice and straight, no dents, dings, creases, etc. Glass is all clear and crack-free and windows roll nice and smoothly. Bumper-integrated fog light lenses show some aging by way of hairline cracks. Panel fitment is spot-on throughout and doors open and close extremely smoothly. There are mounting holes in place for the missing trim pieces on either door, and the roof is not clear coated as it should be covered by a vinyl top.

Interior:
Again, please defer to the photos and video. Interior looks really good. Unrestored and presumably original, which is cool to see. Front bench seat has some punctures and general wear as you can see in the photos, rear is very nice. Front seat, while worn in a bit, still feels great….not blown-out or excessively soft. Blower motor and heat are functional. This car is not equipped with air conditioning. Original radio is not currently functional. Lights and signals are functional. Windshield wipers are not currently installed but will come with the car. Gauges are all functional and the odometer was reset when the body was restored – actual mileage from new is unknown. Headliner is clean, tight, and intact. Carpeting is in good shape, having been replaced in 2008.
