Unfortunately, we lost this talented builder a few years ago.

This XK140 Drophead Coupe serves as a fantastic example of the model, showcasing a largely complete and correct configuration. The newly crafted top, professionally tailored for the car, complements its overall correctness and presents exceptionally well. Throughout the restoration, meticulous attention was given to the glass, moldings, and gaskets, either reconditioning or replacing them. The body lines are consistently good, without any signs of door sag. While there are a few typical blemishes in the paint, requiring a keen eye to spot, such as a light run on the lower edge of the door and a couple of superficial scratches, these can be remedied with compound or wet sanding.

Notably, the center lower panel beneath the headlight appears to have experienced a dent at some point, with accompanying cracking in the paint. This, however, is concealed from sight by the bumper itself. The doors, trunk, and bonnet open and close effortlessly. The lights are clean, in excellent condition, and fully operational. The wheels have been sandblasted and repainted in a bright aluminum finish, presenting a pleasing aesthetic. While the whitewall tires are in good condition, their age is unconfirmed. A new Coker tire has been installed on the right front, and it's important to note that these are tubed tires.

Inside the cabin, a blend of genuine tan leather and mohair, along with custom-trimmed carpet and paneling, creates an interior that stands as a highlight of this Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe. The overall completeness of the interior is evident, with a couple of minor trim panels requiring affixing as they are not currently secured in place. The wood trim and dash exhibit excellent condition, likely having undergone refinishing. All switches operate smoothly and function as intended. While the wiper and washer system is present, it needs wiring and is currently non-functional, though driving in the rain is not recommended for this Drophead.

Interior door panels and hardware are excellent, and the telescoping wheel adds adjustability for taller drivers. Some smudging in the mohair can be noted where the rear backrest lays down, suggesting a need for touch-up in those areas. The SMITHS gauges are clear, clean, and fully operational, with the clock being the only non-functional component.
Examining the underside reveals the extent of the mechanical work conducted, showcasing a well-maintained undercarriage. While the original specification indicated a Close Ratio Gearbox, confirmation of the gearbox's originality is pending. The braking system and fuel system have undergone complete overhauls, and various components, such as control arms, shocks, and tie rod ends, appear rebuilt and in good condition. New hardware is evident in several areas, and the frame, while showing some light filler in spots, is solid and straight. The dual exhaust connects to the original 3442cc Inline Six.

Under the hood, the original numbers-matching engine, rebuilt within the last three years, runs flawlessly. The engine's excellent performance reflects the prior owner's commitment to a high-quality rebuild. The underhood starter button facilitates an easy warm-up, and while the electric choke is a bit finicky, it can be engaged with a simple grounding of the lead during cold starts. The SU carbs, also overhauled, deliver air and fuel seamlessly, resulting in a smooth and smoke-free running engine.
Driving this XK140 is a distinctive experience, with the car tracking straight and free from suspension noises. It confidently cruises down the road, offering a genuine pleasure in driving. The shifting is precise, the clutch feels good, and the car stops straight. This XK140 is not only a showpiece but also a ready-to-enjoy driving experience.

In summary, it's a rare find to encounter an XK140 that has undergone a comprehensive top-to-bottom restoration while remaining a drivable and enjoyable car. This Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe truly encapsulates the best of both worlds.
