What We Know
We discovered this beautiful old Eldo in a garage just outside Madison, WI. The previous owners lovingly drove the car only 2,000 miles during their tenure as owners, almost a 14 year span! He admitted that they just didn't have the time with other life events happening to enjoy the car as much as they'd really like to. The car only came out once or twice a year, and consistently only ever had maybe 100-200 miles put on it in a summer. Unfortunately, he didn't have a ton of history on the car prior to him owning it, as he bought it from a dealership in the Madison area. The dealer did inform him at the time of him purchasing the car that the original and only owner had traded it in there on a newer Cadillac. From what we know, the car lived most of it's life in Missouri, before it made it's way to the midwest. At no point in it's life has this car seen snow, and maybe only a handful of precipitation, including the trip back to Chicago on the trailer… The good news is that we discovered that the top is sturdy and leak free! Let's take a closer look around this classy old convertible
The Exterior
This big bodied, two door soft-top is actually in very good condition. The body is solid and 99% rust-free, aside from some small bubbles forming in the rear cowl, just at the base of the soft-top. We took our paint gauge all the way around this car, and each panel appears to be draped in it's original white paint. All of the sheet metal looks nice and straight, and all gaps are true and consistent. Popping the hood and inspecting the inner fenders brought us even more joy, as it looks like they have never been off the car. It is safe to say that this car hasn't seen any major accidents or fender benders, and even the dealer installed pinstripe still looks to be in fantastic condition. We do note a small ding in the driver's door, hardly noticeable from most angles. We will most likely have our PDR (paintless dent removal) specialist work his magic on that and we can call the car “lazer straight”. The rear plastic filler between the rear body panel and the bottom fell into pieces like they all do and we have a replacement on the way. Finding a good clean midwest convertible is not the easiest task, but we have one, and she is a beauty
The Interior
Have a look through the pictures. What you see is what you get with this big drop top. It's original interior is in great shape, showing just minimal signs of aging or “patina”. The seats up front are in good condition, but do show some light wear on the seat bottoms up front. Both back seats look fantastic, as if they rarely carried a passenger. We do note one tiny tear in the passenger side rear seat. The dash is clean and free of cracks and fading, and the wood grain is all in great shape too. The only “age marks” on the interior would be the “chrome” (plastic) trim around the wood grain, as it is starting to flake away and show spots of black, instead of chrome. All gauges are in good working order, and even the 8 – way power adjustable bench seat works as it should. We do note that the car came with cruise control, however we haven't had the opportunity to get it up to speed to test it, as we are on one of the busiest streets in Chicago here… We will update once we know more, but were
